- Transit trade
The goods go directly from one country to another. The trade is managed from Istanbul.
Transit trade is the purchase of goods from a foreign country and their sale to a third country without importing them into Türkiye. On this page we explain how the model works, which documents it relies on and what it offers the buyer.
How the model works
TEMİR buys the goods from the supplier in its own name and sells them to the buyer in its own name. Two separate contracts are concluded: a purchase contract with the supplier and a sales contract with the buyer.
The goods are shipped directly from the loading point in the supplier's country to the destination in the buyer's country. If the route requires it, bonded warehouses or free zones in Türkiye can be used as an intermediate stop; even then, the goods are not imported into Türkiye.
What it offers the buyer
One counterparty: a single contract and a single invoice instead of separate correspondence with several manufacturers in different countries.
Balanced financing and risk: the payment structure (letter of credit, cash against documents, advance payment) is set according to the size of the transaction and the level of trust between the parties.
Logistics efficiency: because the goods do not pass through an unnecessary country, freight costs and transit times are reduced, along with unnecessary handling and the risk of damage.
What it offers the supplier
Sales into a new market without setting up a company there or bearing the collection risk alone.
Documents and payment processes prepared in line with the practices of the buyer's country.

Bill of lading / transport document
A bill of lading (B/L) for sea freight, CIM for rail and CMR for road. Where necessary, the bill of lading is reissued (switch B/L).
Certificate of origin
Shows the country in which the goods were manufactured; required in the buyer's country for duties and preferential regimes.

On request, pre-shipment inspection, quantity and quality control, product certificates and test reports.
Insurance policy
Cargo insurance for CIF or CIP deliveries, or at the buyer's request.
Delivery terms
The Incoterms rules we use
| EXW | The goods are made available at the supplier's premises; transport is the buyer's responsibility. |
| FCA | The goods are handed over to the buyer's carrier at the named place. Commonly used for container and multimodal transport. |
| FOB | The goods are deemed delivered once loaded on board the vessel at the port of shipment. |
| CFR / CIF | Freight (and, under CIF, insurance) is paid by the seller; risk passes at the port of shipment. |
| CPT / CIP | The equivalents of CFR and CIF for any mode of transport. |
| DAP | The goods are delivered at the named place in the buyer's country, not cleared for import. |
Payment
Payment structures
Letter of credit (L/C)
The buyer's bank undertakes to pay once complying documents are presented. Preferred for large transactions and first-time business relationships. In transit transactions, transferable or back-to-back letters of credit can be used.
Cash against documents (CAD)
The documents are released to the buyer through the banks against payment.
Advance and partial advance payment
For transactions with short production times and smaller amounts: an advance payment, with the balance paid after loading.
Transit trade transactions are subject to foreign exchange regulations, banking practice and the foreign trade rules of the countries involved. The structure of each transaction is agreed together once the parties and the product are known.
